Born and raised in the Midwest, Jim Flahaven eventually made his way to Maine. There he found a wealth of robust scenery that has provided a constant stream of inspiration for his work.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and his masters from Ohio State University- both in drawing and painting. He has shown his work extensively throughout the U.S. in galleries, museums, and universities. His work has been exhibited in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Florida, Wisconsin, and North Carolina among other states. His work is in private collections throughout the country.
He has taught at Clarion University, the University of New England, the Maine College of Art, and the University of Southern Maine where he currently teaches drawing and painting.
He lives in Portland with his wife, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and their dog, a mutt.
